Course Introduction

Welcome to Grisham Middle School. I am so excited to be working with 6th grade students in Applied Math and Language Arts, Instructional Support for Science and World Cultures.

Located under Agenda/Homework, is a calendar with assignments for both Applied Language Arts and Applied Math classes, assessments, and homework.  Often we will begin the homework in class, to be completed independently.  Click or hover over the words above to see what our plans are for each six weeks.  If  your child states that they completed the assignment, they may have.  During Den, I offer the opportunity to come in to work on homework, or ask questions for those whom cannot attend tutorials.

The Math and Science Textbooks are online, and can be accessed by clicking on the above textbook tab.

Mathematics plays an essential role both within the school and in society. It promotes a powerful universal language, analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills that contribute to the development of logical, abstract and critical thinking. Moreover, understanding and being able to use mathematics with confidence is not only an advantage in school but also a skill for problem-solving and decision-making in everyday life. Therefore, mathematics should be accessible to and studied by all students.                            Mathematics is well known as a foundation for the study of sciences, engineering and technology. However, it is also increasingly important in other areas of knowledge such as economics and other social sciences. MYP mathematics aims to equip all students with the knowledge, understanding and intellectual capabilities to address further courses in mathematics, as well as to prepare those students who will use mathematics in their workplace and life in general.   In MYP mathematics, the four main objectives support the IB learner profile, promoting the development of students who are knowledgeable, inquirers, communicators and reflective learners.    When we started to farm, it was just the two of us. Now we’ve got kids of our own and 10 employees who’ve become our extended family. We’re all here because we absolutely love what we do.
